This is also after Twitter nuked rich media previews for links. They clearly took a page from Facebook’s “pivot to video” playbook and are trying to force publishers to post full content entirely on Twitter instead of sending people off the app with links.
It sure seems to me like Elon Musk bought Twitter to shut it down, but obviously he couldn’t just yank the plug right away. The next best option? Gradually steer it into the ground with a series of objectively awful decisions and hey why not double down on hate and platforming hate mongers.
After all, what do bigoted billionaires hate just as much, if not more, than paying their fair share in taxes? Allowing people to organize and gain any modicum of power. Despite its many longstanding pre-Musk problems, Twitter had become a formidable tool that helped people organize for (and against) causes.
So down it goes.
